Greetings Soul Masters community!
Soon you will be able to explore the new cards in our new set, Outerlands, and we felt it is needed to give you a small heads up on what to expect in this new journey and how some of those keywords are going to be resolved in the game. Let’s start with the factions we already know, Wolven, Valkyrian and Vampyrian first!
The Wolven clan has a few fun things going now and one of this things is Hidden Potential. This keyword will consider the card that has it as a simple unit with no further text on its effects. This does not affect the Health, Shield Power, Attack or name of the card but just any effects it can have such as Haste, Devour, etc.

Another interesting mechanic that the Wolven clan will introduce is Clashing Guard. With Clashing Guard, the unit that enters with this keyword will be protected from enemy spells, skills or abilities and attacks until the next turn. This does not protect the unit from being targeted by feats due to them being the strongest cards in the game. This protection is only temporary though, so make sure to use it and prepare your board for a big play the next turn. (Effects that applies to the whole board such as Lone Wolf and Equilibrium do not target and will affect the units with Clashing Guard)

The Valkyrians bring new tricks to dominate the battlefield with the introduction of Sky Drop. Units with Sky Drop can phase in from your hand, instead of your energy field. When they swap with the attacking unit, the attacking unit ends up in your hand. Just as Phasing, you must pay the difference in energy cost to ensure it was done properly. In addition to all the exchange now being from the hand instead of the energy field, most Sky Drop units will gain Attack from the difference in the cost between the attacking unit and the Sky Drop unit regardless of whether the cost was higher or lower. This means that you can Sky Drop a smaller unit to return a big unit such as Captain Stain to your hand and get a power boost and energy boost too! Please do note that the Master Phaser skill present on Captain Stain does not interact with Sky Drop and you cannot bring back Captain Stain into hand and then place many Sky Drop units instead.

The Vampyrian came looking for a bruising and they now bring Combo to their flurry of attacks. Combo will activate once you have activated a Banding skill from units you control when the unit with Combo attacks. The process that should go is, normal bruisers guild unit attacks, second bruisers guild unit attacks and that should activate their Banding keyword if they have any and then finally to finish this is the third unit with Combo which finishes the multiple attacks you are trying to do. Combo does activate Banding too if possible.

But that is not all since Vampyrians also now have a modified version of Throwing Stars called Throwing Knives, this keyword will only activate when you play a unit from your hand. This skill will allow you to deal 1 point of damage to your opponent if you have a Shuriken card in your discard. Finally the Shuriken build we all wished for is now available!!! Now that we saw a general idea of what the factions from awakenings do in this new set, lets focus now towards the Draconians and the Necromancers!

Necromancers introduce into the game a new unit sub-type called Awoken. This unit type will be very important for many card effects in this deck. This unit types tend to have some keywords tied to them such as Fragile and Ravage, Fragile will cause you to KO a unit after it has resolved its combat attack if it did and also gain 1 resource. This means now that even when you attack with a massive unit, if it has Fragile, it will be KO’d at the end of that combat and you will get 1 resource for it. Another keyword present will be Ravage. Ravage is similar to Swiftstrike in which you must rest another unit to add its attack power to the attack. The key difference here is that it searches for another unit with Ravage instead of a unit type which allows this to be stronger and more spread out than expected. You would want to keep an eye out for more units with Ravage. Another keyword seen in some Nightcrawlers cards is the keyword Inanimate, this keywords is really simple, the unit cannot attack. Inanimate units tend to be trickier to play and use but provide a benefit to the player that knows how to use them.
Draconians introduce some fun things into the game such as Synchronize. Synchronize allows you to rest a Dragon Mount to attach it to a Non-Mounted Dragon Rider and activates its Mounted skills. Dragon Mounts count as artifact cores, meaning they are energy cards that attach to a unit and gives them more skills and stats to boost their power to win the game. Just as mentioned that Synchronize activates Mounted… What is Mounted? Well this is a keyword skill found in most Draconinan units that provided them with different effects when they get properly Synchronized with their dragon. Many key card effects that you play will depend on having a mounted unit or maybe even a commander to get the most out of your cards.
Another key part that will be introduced with this set are tokens. Some card effects will ask you to turn your resource into tokens and they will always be returned to your resource deck when they get KO’d, removed or returned to your hand. You must always have enough tokens for you and your opponent if you do give them tokens to make sure to have enough to represent your board state! This is just a general overview of some of the things to expect in Outerlands! All the commanders did get card support for a more varied playstyle, feel free to build and test them out!
P.S. The deck builder should have most cards ready except a few problems that have not being discovered yet but always stay vigilant.
